The Spring Maintenance Checklist
It seems like every time spring rolls around, we accumulate this endless list of need-to-do tasks for our home that we pushed off through the winter season. Not only have we pushed of those things, but more tasks have arisen with the change in weather, both to the interior and exterior of our homes. The easiest way to go about knocking off this checklist is to prioritize the items from top to bottom. Knocking out the high priority items first, while checking off the smaller ones when you have some spare time, will make the process go by much quicker. For now, we want to make sure that your list contains all the necessary items for the efficiency and value of your home. These are the high priority tasks for the homes we visit, and should be for yours as well.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Throughout the summer, your gutter will accumulate left over leaves from the fall, dirt from the roof, and many other substances that could inhibit the flow and function of your system. What most people don’t understand is the long term effects it can have on the home. Not only is your gutter not draining properly, but now all of that excess substance is starting to mold, starting to leak down the siding of your house, and starting to deteriorate the actual gutter system in place. Making gutter cleaning a task for every season will ensure the life of your gutters, and the quality of your home.
2. Power Washing
Nothing makes the exterior of your home shine like a professional power washing job. We residents of the Midwest know how cruel and dirty the winter season can be, and if we begin to mow and work on the exterior of our home without properly washing the sidings and flatworks structures, that grime will only accumulate more. Power Washing restores the original color and shine to the structure, removes unwanted dirt and mold, and removes any insects or hives that may be living in the structure of your home.
3. Changing The Air Filters
This process is often overlooked when completing the routine maintenance steps of your house, but it is very important for a multitude of reasons. Changing the air filters in your home will not only improve the function of your air system, but it can also reduce allergy symptoms and improve the overall quality of the air in your home.
4. Improving the Landscaping
The main fixtures of your home that people see are the siding/entrances of your home and the landscaping. Spring is a great time to lay down some new mulch, plant new bushes and flowers, trim your trees and bushes, and even add some new structures that add to the outdoor value of your home. Landscaping in itself can be an all-encompassing project, and that is why it is often very beneficial to hire a professional to effectively get the job done!
Aside from these four larger tasks, there are many other tasks you can make sure are on your to-do-list for spring maintenance. Although they may vary in need by each home, these include:
- Interior and Exterior Painting
- Deck Staining
- Deep Window Cleaning
- New Appliance Installs
- And More!
